Singapore, 16th June 2017 — Prestige Singapore, is once again honoured to be a part of the Yellow Ribbon Fund Charity Gala Dinner 2017. Held at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore on May 20, the event raised a record amount of more than $1.2 million in donations, table sales and auction takings.
Guest-of-Honour, Singapore’s Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law, presented the cheque to Yellow Ribbon Fund Chairman, Mrs Wong Ai Ai, and Co-Chairman, Ms Laura Lim, Director of Operations at Burda Singapore, who represents Prestige. They were joined by the organising committee members of the gala dinner.
The gala was a showcase of artistic and musical flair, including performances by Changi Prison’s Performing Arts Centre band (whose members receive formal musical training as part of their rehabilitation regime), prominent industry leaders Leow Tze Wen and Asad Jumabhoy, legal secretary Norhayati Binte Abu and crooner Hazlin Rahim, who himself was formerly incarcerated.
With the aim of giving back to society, spreading the message of hope and second chances, Prestige adopted the charity in 2012 and has since been supporting the Yellow Ribbon Fund.
Launched in 2004, the Yellow Ribbon Fund is the first national charitable fund devoted entirely towards the development and implementation of rehabilitation and reintegration programmes for inmates and ex-offenders. It is also devoted to family support programmes with the aim of strengthening family ties of inmates and ex-offenders. Proceeds from various fund-raising activities will go towards funding a variety of rehabilitation, reintegration and family support programmes.
In 2012, Prestige also formed the Prestige-Yellow Ribbon Children Fund that supports children whose parents have been incarcerated. Since then, over $600,000 has been raised through the sale of Prestige’s coffee-table books and fundraising events such as The Starlight Carnival in 2013, Fang-tastic Night in 2014 and Yellow Brick Road Charity Brunch in 2016.
